Doris Leuthard

Doris Leuthard (Merenschwand, Argovie, April 10th 1963) is a political woman Suisse pertaining to the Parti Christian-Democrat (PDC). She is elected federal adviser the June 14th 2006 and directs the federal department of the economy starting from the 2006.

She belongs to the wing center-droite of the party. Favorable to the revisions of the law on asylum and famous near to the pro-nuclear mediums, she is opposed to the Privatization Swisscom. But it engages for a more active family policy. In the field of the foreign politics, it is satisfied with the bilateral approach in the relations with the European Union and thus draws aside the idea of an adhesion.

Election at the Federal council

After the surprised resignation of the federal adviser Joseph Deiss, it makes figure of favorite in the race with the election of its successor. June 14th, 2006, she is elected without surprised at the Federal council, by the federal Assemblée, with the first ballot by 133 votes on a total of 234 valid votes. Two national advisers of the left wing of the party, Lucrezia Meier-Schatz and Chiara Simoneschi-Cortesi, collect together 57 votes, the to advise in the States Carlo Schmid (right wing) 11 and various people a total of 33. Its score is in the average for a first election but is definitely lower than the manpower of the 4 parliamentary groups which supported it officially.

Minister for the economy

As of on August 1st, 2006, it takes again the federal Department of the economy to the head of which it succeeds Joseph Deiss.
