The name of the city east generally associated with the channel of Donzère-Mondragon, great artificial derivation carried out on the Rhone, but also with the procession of Donzère which marks the last true contracting of the valley of the Rhone before its course does not join the Mediterranean. The " robinet" , locality in the procession of Donzère, where the Rhone narrows because of cliffs, owes its name with a former owner terrienc, Robin Berton says Robinet. He is generally admitted by the geographers and climatologists that the procession of Donzère, length of almost 3 km, marks the septentrional limit of the true Mediterranean climate in the valley of the Rhone in terms of sunning and cultures. Donzère marked thus a long time the Northern limit of the culture of the olive-tree, which pretense to go up, consequence of general climate warming, slightly towards north during the last years, with the height of the procession of Cruas, the north of Montélimar. As many arguments so that Donzère can be prevailed more than of others and rightly name " Carry of Provence" as well for its climate as its accent South. Enough protected from the mistral by its hills located at North, the city opens on the true plain of Tricastin where are born the cultures and the atmosphere authentically Mediterranean.
The privileged geographical location of Donzère in the valley of the Rhone (unmemorable crossing point) undoubtedly explains mainly its demographic and economic dynamism during the last years with a population from now on near to the 5000 inhabitants.
