Donovan Bailey

Donovan Bailey is a Canadian athlete , of origin jamaïcaine, born the December 16th 1967. Native of Manchester in Jamaica, Donovan emigrates in Canada at the 13 years age. He plays basketball then concentrates on the 100 meters as from 1991.

Sporting career

He is crowned world champion on 100 m and 4x100 m in 1995, at the time of the Championnats of the world of Gothenburg.

In 1996, with the Olympic Games of Atlanta, it becomes Olympic champion by beating the world records of the 100 m in 9" 84, thus beating the preceding mark (9" 85) established two years before by American Leroy Burrell.

In 1997, it runs against the Olympic champion of the 200 m, Michael Johnson at the time of a duel on 150 m (75 m of turn and 75 m of straight line) organized with Toronto. This duel aims at determining which is the fastest man of the world, since Johnson beat the world records of the 200 m, the previous year at the time of the Olympic Games. Bailey gains this duel over abandonment of Johnson following a wound contracted at the exit of the turn.

Not very eloquent on its private life, Donovan Bailey is nevertheless one of the foreign athletes most appreciated in France. Its fan French club is chaired by Guillaume Dumortier.
