Donets

The Donetz or Siwerskyj Donez is an affluent of the long Don 1.053 km whose course crosses the south-west of the Russia and is Ukraine. The basin of Donetz has a surface of 98.900 km ².

Cours du river

Donetz runs in Ukraine on 950 km of its course. Its source is approximately 100 km at the north of the town of Belgorod in Russia. It is thrown in the Gift a little in the south of the town of Oust-Donetski also in Russia. Donetz occurs on the plate of Russia Centrale and crosses the Oblast de Koursk to the south of the zone of the highlands at an altitude of 215 Mr. Arrivé at Belgorod it is practically with the same altitude: its slope, very weak, is of 1 meter per km. It crosses the Lake Pechenihy (86 km ²) which feeds the town of Karkhov out of fresh water. Hydrology

Water of Donetz comes in majority from rainwater and the cast iron from snows. The high waters are located February at April. Its course is naviguable on 315 km but it is taken by the ices from December to mid-March.

In the middle of the course of Donetz, on left bank of the river one finds the Bassin of Donetz which includes/understands one of the largest coal layers of the old Soviet Union; it is also an important industrial area.
