Dondaine

The dondaine is a type of projectile fired by the medieval Arbalète S commonly gathered under the term square. Of an exclusively military use, the dondaine is characterized by the reinflated shape of its barrel intended to increase its weight and thus its thrust force. It is traditionally equipped with point with blades of triangular form with or without barbelures.

From its name comes us the known refrain from the old songs " the féri lump of a woman, the féri dondaine… " who can be a remainder of song of principal rafter: " Férir" mean to draw and touch its target, and, in this case, with a dondaine. The dondaine or " dondon" remain also present in the current language for designer a large woman, by analogy with the shape of the projectile.
