Donatien Laurent

Donatien Laurent , born in 1935 with Belfort is a French musician and linguist.

Born from a father polytechnician of origin finistérienne and from a mother musician originating in frequent Nantes, Donatien Laurent during her years of college with Paris the Breton diaspora, and discovers the Celtic culture by the music. It will belong to the Breton movement scout Bleimor.

After a serious accident, which leaves it an invalid time, it decides at the beginning of the Années 1950 to leave to collect popular songs in the Pays vannetais.

It is with the manor of Keransquer, close to Quimperlé (Finistere), property of the family of Villemarqué, that Donatien Laurent finds in 1964 the notebooks of collection on which the Viscount Theodore Hersart of Villemarqué had collected the songs which were used as a basis for the drafting of the Barzaz Breiz . This discovery, which will be the subject of a work in 1989, makes it possible to better include/understand and judge value of the work of the Viscount, a time questioned.

In 1969, Donatien Laurent creates the Research center Breton and Celtic, that it will direct during twelve years.
