Geography
With the variation of the main roads, the village was partly established on the coast of Bulgnéville. Between the high plate of the village and the bottom of the hillock, the uneven one is of 46 meters. The very undulating landscape allows the juxtaposition of various ecological units: orchards, vines, forest, meadows. The major part of the grounds make up of marnes compact and heavy, supporting profitable corn harvests. But so a long time the culture of corn was prevalent, currently the village is primarily surrounded by vast meadows. It is a “village-street” made up of farms dating from the 18th century. The traditional frame is still very visible there, stone paving, dry stone walls, usoirs give us a typical example of village of the area.
History
The village of Domvallier is of old origin. The first name dates from the 12th century: Wridicus Pinguis de Damviliaco then will follow one another: the fiei of Donvaleir, Curatus de Dompno Valerio, Dompvalier, Donvalier, Donvalley, Dompavillier. The village was one of the seigniories of the duke of Lorraine; it had castles, strengthened church, a pond seigneurial. To date, there remains old church only the vault castrale with, on the external wall, the funerary stringcourse of the lords of the place and the broken head of a stone statue of the 16th century. Castle, which was placed close to the pond, it remains nothing put aside toponymy place “the Castle”. Of the second castle, located in top of the village, one still guesses some bases of the important masonry.
