Dompierre-on-Yon

Dompierre-on-Yon is a common French, department of the the Vendée in the area Pays of the Loire.

Its inhabitants is called Dompierrois.

Geography

Dompierre-on-Yon is located in the middle of the Vendean scrap-metal, in the valley of the Yon, Affluent of the Lay. The city is located at 8 km in the north of the Rock on Yon and at approximately 60km in the south of Nantes. The city is made up of a center-borough and many hamlets scattered on 3.360 ha of the commune.

History

Traces of Neolithic presence then Celtic attest first occupations on the territory of the commune. The beginning of creation of Dompierre-on-Yon can be the Gallo-Roman time and from the development of the many hamlets (of which the termination of the names is often - ière, derived from Latin - ius): Berthelière , Éraudière , Braconnière … The center-borough is constituted at the 14th century and the village develops gently until the 20th century (1324 inhabitants in 1962). The end of the 20th century and the beginning of the current century are marked by a growth of the number of inhabitants because of his proximity with the Rock on Yon and of the construction of new allotments to the center-borough.
