Domont

Domont is a commune of the Val-d'Oise located in the Pays of France, to approximately 20 km in the north of Paris. Its inhabitants are Domontois (be).

Geography

Domont is built on the north-eastern slope of the plate of the Forêt of Montmorency and dominates the flat of France.

The commune is bordering on Montmorency, Andilly, Montlignon, Saint-Price, Bouffémont, Moisselles, Ézanville and Piscop.

Heraldic

History

The name comes from the Germanic anthroponyme Dodo and Latin Mons , mount; or of Dool Assembles , reminiscence of a monument druidic.

Domont is a village of loggers and peasants since the Top Moyen-âge. It is attested in 1105 in an act where Rudolphe the Beautiful one gives the Benedictine abbey located to Domont with Saint-Martin-of-Fields with Paris; there remains about it nowadays only the monastic vault become parish under the patronage of holy Madeleine. During the centuries which follow, the village is the seigniory various families: the Montmorency, then Villiers, Billy and Champluisant. The opening of the railroad and the inauguration of the station in 1877 projects the village in modernity. Many orchards are created, giving soon to the commune “the Domont-the-pear” nickname, of the brickyards are built on the muddy plate near the station. The development of the village and the proximity of the capital thanks to the train bring the beginnings of a suburban urbanization between the borough and the station as of the years 1920. In the years 1960 and 1970, they are small collectives and HLM which is built, the double population between 1958 and 1977 and exceeds the 10.000 inhabitants then. The urbanization continued during the years 1980 and 1990 by the construction of “new villages”, small collectives and contemporary private housing estates, filling the majority of free spaces finally.

Domont is served by the station of Domont, on the network Transilien Paris-North, branches Paris-North - Persan-Beaumont/Luzarches, network H. the station is served at a rate of a slow train all the 1/4 of hour, the trains being on the other hand direct of Paris with Sarcelles - Saint-Brice at the rush hours the morning as well as the evening. The service road is reduced to a slow train to the 1/2 hour in evening (after 20:30). It is necessary of 20 (non-stop train) for 25 mn (slow train) of way starting from the station of North.
