Dominique Wilkins

Biography

Although American citizen, Dominique Wilkins was born in France where his/her father worked. He continues his studies with the the United States, with the Université of Georgia, during three seasons during which he turns at 21,6 points of average per match. Its Dunk S spectacular makes him obtain the nickname of Human Highlight Film .

In 1982, it is drafté in 3rd position by the Utah Jazz, of the National Basketball Association (NBA), but refuses to sign the contract and is transferred to the Atlanta Hawks where it will pass the major part of its career. As of its first season, it marks more than 17 points on average per match then it exceeds the 20 points during the 11 following seasons (including two with more than 30 points per match). In 1993, he becomes the 17th player of the history of the NBA to exceed the 20.000 points in career.

The February 22nd 1994 is revolving in its career: it leaves Atlanta to join the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange of Danny Manning. Then it joined the Boston Celtics the following season.

Dissatisfied with its role in the team, it tries to start again its career in Europe while signing with the Panathinaïkos in Greece. It then reaches the Final Furnace of the Euroligue in 1996 with Paris, finale which it gains and of which it is elected Meilleur player.

It returns then in NBA to the San Antonio Spurs, where it turns, against any waiting, with more than 18 points of average. The following season (1997), it leaves NBA again to turn over in Europe to the Fortitudo Bologna in Italy during one season. Finally, the February 5th 1999, it signs its last contract with the Orlando Magic until the end of the season, before taking its retirement.

The Wilkins family is an big family of basketball players, since Gerald Wilkins is the brother of Dominique (they played together at the time of the last season of Dominique), and Damien Wilkins her nephew.

Its number 21 fact part of the withdrawn shirts by the Atlanta Hawks.
