Dominique Voynet

Dominique Voynet is a French political woman, member of the party the Greens, born the November 4th 1958 with Montbeliard (department of the Doubs). It is doctor of medicine, specialized in Anesthésie Réanimation.

It is mother of two girls. The elder one, Ronzani Marine, is teaching and was candidate with the legislative elections of June 2007 in the the Jura.

Biography

Exit of a family of teachers, Dominique Voynet obtains her baccalaureat at the 16 years age, and continues studies of medicine which it completes at the 23 years age. During her higher learning at the Medical college of Besancon (1977 - 1982), Dominique Voynet is nurse of night, syndicated with the CFDT. It operates replacements of general doctors, then specialists (1981 - 1985), syndicates with the Trade union of the general medicine. Ecological militancy

Diving in policy

It is indeed the candidate of the Greens but also of one alliance to the “left of the left” including/understanding the AREV (a party heir to PSU), and the Convention for an alternative progressist.

With the first turn, the April 23rd 1995, it obtains 3,31% of the votes (1 010.738 votes). In accordance with the decisions of its party, she refuses to invite to vote with the second turn for the socialist candidate Lionel Jospin.

Minister then sénatrice

Within the framework of the agreements made between the Greens and the PS for the French legislative elections of 1997, it is elected Députée of the 3rd district of the the Jura, beating it leaving, Gilbert Barbier (UDF). It enters the government of Lionel Jospin, known as of the “Plural left”, including/understanding the ecologists and of the representatives of the various formations of the parliamentary left. Again candidate with the delegation in the 3rd district of the Jura at the time of the legislative elections of June 2002, it profits from the support of the PS and PRG, but it is beaten with the second turn by his adversary of right-hand side, Jean-Marie Sermier (UMP).

The federal Parliament of Nantes (December 2002) having made the criticism of the end of the period of governmental participation, but also in the way in which she exerted her function of national secretary, she finds itself put in minority. In January 2003, Gilles Lemaire succeeds to him.

In 2004, following agreements between the Greens and the PS, it is elected sénatrice of the Seine-Saint-Denis following the example Jean Desessard and of Alima Boumediene-Thiery. It joined thus with the Sénat Marie-Christine Blandin, hitherto single green sénatrice. The former candidate of the Greens in presidential Dominique Voynet announced, on Thursday, November 8, 2007, that it would be candidate with Montreuil-under-wood (Seine-Saint-Denis) with the next local elections, vis-a-vis the outgoing mayor Jean-Pierre Brard (app PCF).

Again candidate with the presidential one

Candidate with the candidature for the Greens for the French presidential election of 2007, Dominique Voynet obtains 35,45% of the votes of the members to the first tower of the internal primary education of her party April 21st 2006, against 28,33% for Yves Cochet and 23,2% for Cécile Duflot. The second turn organized on May 30th not having succeeded in deciding between it Yves Cochet (2 votes of variation, for a participation of 60,85%), a new second turn is organized in July 2006. The participation is of 64,9%, and Dominique Voynet in fate gaining with a relative majority of 46%, and an advance of 57 votes only on Yves Cochet.

It is thus the official candidate of the Greens for the presidential election of 2007, credited with 2% of voting intentions by the surveys.

Member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and non-violence, Dominique Voynet was placed at the head of the candidates during classifications by various associations ecologists, in particular Alliance for the Planet (71 environmental associations of which Natural France Environment, WWF, the Amis of the Earth, the Fondation Nicolas Hulot, Greenpeace, the Platform of the Equitable trade…), the planetary Collective urgency (CCFD, CRID, Cimade, Catholic aid, country Reception, Attac, Défap, Fasti, Oxfam France-To act here,…), the Collective for the environmental health of the specialists in the public health, but also by the League of the Human rights. It in addition received a “special price with Transparence mention” by Anticor, association of elected officials who fight against corruption.

At the evening of the 1st turn, 576.666 votes (1,57%) go on the name of Dominique Voynet, who invites to vote with the second turn for the candidate of the left, Ségolène Royal.

Criticized political acts

Mrs Voynet, then minister of environment had been strongly criticized at the time of the ecological catstrophe caused by the shipwreck del' erika, not judging useful initially to go on the spot of the disaster.
