Dominique Baratelli
Dominique Baratelli, born on December 26th, 1947 with Nice (the Alpes-Maritimes), is old a Goalkeeper international French of Football (1,78 m, 77 kg at the time).
Career
Formed at the Niçois Stage then in Cavigal of Nice, whose school of guards is of national fame, Baratelli begins its professional path with the AC Ajaccio in 1967. It compensates for its gauge lower than the average (for a guard) by astonishing reflexes on its line and of excellent exits " in the pieds". In 1971, Baratelli joined OGC Nice, then one of the best French teams, then is seen rather quickly (June 1972) called in team of France like lining of Georges Carnus. Following the replacement of the national sport selector Georges Boulogne by Stefan Kovacs in 1973 and with the decision of this last to rebuild a team on the basis of player of less than 30 years, Baratelli is seen established in the tricolor cage. It there disputes the eliminating heats of the Euro 1976, resistant to the competition of Jean-Paul Bertrand-Demanes and Rene Charrier, but is seen supplanted by André Rey during the eliminating heats of the World cup 1978. Selected in the 22 for the Argentinian Mundial like number two behind Bertrand-Demanes (Rey, casualty, are fixed price), Baratelli is seen propelled in full light with the first tower vis-a-vis the Argentine, when it must replace Bertrand-Demanes who was wounded by running up against his post on a dive. In spite of a good service, it cannot avoid a splendid goal of Argentinian the Leopoldo Luque which sounds the defeat (1-2) and the elimination of the Bleus . It will not dispute the last meeting (without stake) vis-a-vis the Hungary, the selector Michel Hidalgo aligning there his reservists of which the third guard Dominique Dropsy.
With the return of Argentina, Baratelli leaves Nice for the Paris Saint-Germain, then in the search of its first large title. The rise to power of Dropsy and the results then average of the PSG put initially the international career of Baratelli between brackets, but the decision proves then judicious: carried by the rise of the PSG, Baratelli finds the team of France in February 1982 at the time of a historical victory over the Italy (2-0, the first since 1920). This same year, it gains its first title with the victory of the PSG in Coupe de France vis-a-vis Saint-Etienne (2-2, shootings with the goal). Before arriving from there there, Baratelli confirmed its already established reputation of " killer of penalties" at a Homeric meeting of shootings to the goal in semi-final, Rennes, vis-a-vis FC Turns (at the time in D1). The guard tourangeau Jean-Christmas Nozzle, him also specialist in the exercise, stops three shootings out of five, but Baratelli stops four and sends its team of them finally.
With the approach of the World cup 1982 in Spain, Baratelli is with the fight with the Inhabitant of Saint-Etienne Jean Castaneda for the place of holder in team of France and figure naturally among the 22 selected (with number 1). The surprise total when Michel Hidalgo establishes for the tournament Jean-Luc Ettori, is called last hour. The Bleus carry out a splendid course, punctuated of an unforgettable semi-final lost against the FRG, in spite of the performances in half-tone of Ettori in the cage. Castaneda, aligned at the time of the small final vis-a-vis the Poland, is shown even less convincing and costs the third place France on two errors. More than twenty years after, the not-establishment of Baratelli remains a mystery not cleared up (Michel Hidalgo always refused to communicate on the subject…) and pokes the regrets born of the meeting of shootings with the goal vis-a-vis FRG where its expertise could have made the difference. One can however think that Michel Hidalgo sought to prepare the future (the qualification for the semi-finals going beyond the aims had for 1982) and regarded Baratelli as too old taking part in the Euro 1984. Little convinced by Castaneda, it would then have chosen Ettori.
After the Spanish Mundial and at 34 years spent, Baratelli will not find any more the national team. In club, it very gains new a Coupe de France the following year with the PSG after a final of high level vis-a-vis Nantes (3-2) marked in particular by an exceptional goal of the Nantes Jose Touré. It reaches this same season the quarterfinals of the Coupe of the winners of Cuts. Baratelli completes its professional path in 1985 after one season which sees it relegated on the bench of the PSG following a catastrophic match in UEFA Cup vis-a-vis the Hungarians of Videoton (2-4). It then definitively leaves the medium of professional football. With 593 matches of Division 1, it is one of the most senior players of all the history of French football.
After having hung up again the cramps, Baratelli becomes trainer of the US Cagnes-sur-Mer, which evolves/moves then in the 4th division. It enters then to the town hall of the city where it becomes stimulating with the service of the sports, posts that it always currently occupies.
