Dominikus Böhm

Dominikus Böhm (born on October 23rd, 1880 with Jettingen; died on August 6th, 1955 with Cologne) was a German Architecte also known like important builder of church S of the 20th century.

Life

Böhm goes down from a family of architects of souabe-Bavarian space (this family tradition continues with his/her son, Gottfried, born in 1920 and victorious of the Prix Pritzker in 1986).

Böhm, after having begun studies with Augsburg, starts its training of architect to the Université of Stuttgart with Theodor Fischer.

It starts to teach with Bingen-Am-Rhein (in the current establishment Hfg Offenbach) and obtains in 1926 a place with the Werkschule of Cologne (which was created within the higher technical training school of Cologne). He worked in particular in collaboration with the architect Rudolf Schwarz in a common workshop.

Böhm is especially known for its Catholic churches, even if it could provide its first only after its 40 years. Since then, it built many churches in the Rhineland, in the basin of the the Ruhr but also in Holland or, further still, in South America.
