Domenico of Rossi

Domenico of Rossi (1659 - 1730), originating in Rome, is not itself a Architecte but published three volumes of Gravure S representing the frontages and the heights of the buildings baroques of Rome, which it is of church S or Palais. Rossi entitled its work Studio of will architettura civil di Roma (1702, 1711 and 1721).

The drawings include/understand in particular some abortive projects of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini. The first volume, dedicated with the Pope Clement XI, proposes a large variety of styles as regards windows, doors and bridges, gantries and porches, chimneys and staircases.

This series of engravings was one of the first to then propose a presentation of the style baroque in vogue in Rome. It is of a great interest for the historians of art and was reprinted in 1972, accompanied by a foreword of Anthony Blunt.
