Biography

Domenico di Giovanni resulted from a humble family. His/her father belonged to the corporation of the legnaiolo , a minor corporation which gathered the craftsmen specialists in the manufacture and the assembly of the scaffolding for the construction of the buildings, which did not certainly miss work in this period of strong development of architecture. His/her mother was ropemaking machine and manufactured langes ( pannolini ).

Domenico was hairdresser of profession, and registered with the Corporazione dei Medici E degli Speziali (Corporation of the doctors and specialists), like Dante Alighieri. It held a graver of barber in Via Calimala with Florence, which became a meeting room for the intellectuals and the literary men of the Tuscan capital during the Années 1420 and 1430. Popular poet, it is regarded as the leader of the movement which had been done day, starting from the end of the Trecento, in reaction against the traditional poetry, still very strongly influenced by the petrarquism , which was between the hands of a multitude of versifiers, for the majority poor and conventional, making trade of theirs towards.

This “popular poetry” ( càntari , serventesi , frottole , strambotti , etc), whose rhymes resounded in the streets of all the Toscane, gradually will be integrated in the “serious” literature, bringing its novel ideas, its images, a linguistic coloring and a rate/rhythm which gave a new dash and renewed an Italian poetry which tended to be sclerosed, since the disappearance of the three large founders, Dante (1266 - 1321), Pétrarque (1304 - 1374) and Boccace (1313 - 1375).

He is regarded by Giovanni Lista as the first precursor of the Dadaïsme.
