Dom Bellot

Dom Bellot (Paul Louis Denis Bellot) is a French architect born on June 7th, 1876, died on July 5th, 1944. Monk Benedictine, it built primarily religious buildings. If it uses this new material which is the reinforced concrete, Dom Bellot appreciates also the use of the brick. In Canada, at the end of its life during the Second world war, it influenced various architects: Louis-Napoleon Audet and Adrien Dufresne. The term Dom-Bellotisme characterizes a typical approach of architecture.

Achievements

  • Its abbey, located in the Island of Wight, the abbey of Quarr was built of 1907 to 1911.
  • With Comines the Saint-Chrysole church was built of 1925 to 1929 in collaboration with another architect privileging brick, Maurice Storez.
  • With Audincourt, the Notre-Dame church of the Immaculate Conception, 1932, was one of the first buildings in armed concrete.
  • With Suresnes in the Garden city, the Notre-Dame church of Peace was devoted in 1936.
