Doline

A doline is a depression whose bottom is in general flat and fertile. Dolines are due to phenomena of dissolution of the Calcaire S, and measure few meters to several hundred meters. Their argillaceous bottom often consists of red ground (= rosa or clays of decalcification will terra). The local water retention that they allow makes them favourable with the development of a rich person vegetation who contrasts with the calcareous plate around doline. When several dolines have suddenly been contiguous, one speaks about Ouvala.
It should be noted that the word doline has a Slavic etymology (" dolina" , the valley in Slovenien and Russian)

Genetic classification

Contrary to other ic forms Karst, doline is not due to the only direct action of water, but is often born from a collapse of the Roche when underground cavities are sub-levelling, close to surface. The ceiling of the Cave, then too thin, can subside, creating a depression surfaces some where water accumulates more easily and deposits there by gullying of clays. The opening by collapse of the cavity under unclaimed creates a Fontis or Aven.

The formation of a doline can have other causes that a collapse in progress: dissolution and the tassement.
Moreover, the word doline returns to the word Karst, calcareous plate located as Slovenia, in the South of Trieste, and more largely with the reliefs of the area which stretches the Alps juliennes with the Kvarner, where, according to the essay writer and Italian writer Claudio Magris, dolines have a luxuriant vegetation, in comparison with the windy and snow-covered slopes of the Monte Nevoso.

Morphological classification

The morphological evolution of a doline depends on four factors: dissolution, filling, evacuation and disintegration. According to these four factors, several types of dolines can be distinguished: dolines out of bucket, funnel, basin, cauldron, saucer, bowl, etc.
The drainage of dolines is carried out by a Ponor.

Synonym:

emposieu in the Jura, where this term can also indicate a loss of a river in a basin and also a doline evolved/moved at the bottom communicating sometimes with a cavity.
