Dokkum

Dokkum is a rich person Dutch city in the municipality of Dongeradeel in the province of the Frise. The city counted: 13145 inhabitants at January 1st, 2006. Right asset by Dokkum of city in 1298. In 1597, Frisian admiralty was established in Dokkum, however, it was moved with Harlingen in 1645. In the event of Elfstedentocht Dokkum is known as the keerpunt (turning in the Netherlander) because it is the place where the speed-skaters must take the same route that they came to go again to Leeuwarden. The fortifications of Dokkum are well preserved and are known while bolwerken. Dokkum is internationally famous for the assassination of Saint Boniface near the city in 754.
