Doha

Doha is the capital of the Qatar. It is located on the Persian Gulf, is built in a bay which comprises a 7 km length cornice, and belongs to the subdivision of AD Dawhah. It shelters today the buildings of the television channel Al-Jezira.

History

The city was founded in 1850 under the name of Al-Bida' has . In 1916, British protectorate ends and the city passes under the authority of Qatar. In December 2006, Doha accommodated the Asian Jeux. The city is candidate with obtaining the Olympic Games of summer of 2016.

Population

The population of Doha is estimated at 400.000 inhabitants in 2005. The city is largest of Qatar, while concentrating more than 80% of the population resident.

Economy

Doha is the economic center of Qatar. It is held the ministerial conferences to with it of the Cycle of Doha under the aegis of OMC. Principal industries are the GAS, the Pétrole and the fishing. Doha accommodates an international airport, a port, hotels and sporting infrastructures. Close to Doha is “Education City”, a zone devoted to the Recherche and the education. In the middle of bay, an artificial archipelago entirely dedicated to tourism is in construction: The Pearl . Doha recently accommodated the Asian plays 2006, which proceeded in December 2006 there.

Transport

The principal shipping company is the Karwa company which saw the day in 2005. The company set up lines of bus and took in hand the management of the taxis. Before the arrival of Karwa, each taxi worked for its account with its own car and a license of the baladiya (town hall), independently of a company. With the arrival of Karwa, the taxis oranges are replaced by new car models, more recent: Toyota Camry and Škoda. Tariffing knew a light increase. However, the majority of the population has a car and does not use the public transport, mainly used by the immigrant population coming from the Indian sub-continent.
