The term of Doctor off Laws indicates a University degree third cycle in the anglophone or Anglo-Saxon countries. This term is often shortened in LL.D. (abbreviation coming from the expression Latin E Legum Doctor )

With the the United Kingdom, in Australia and New Zealand, LL.D. is a Doctorat decreed after having produced many publications contributing important and original share to the science or the study of the Droit. However, certain universities, such as the University of Oxford, decree off Doctor Civil Law in the place. In Canada, LL.D and the Doctor off Civil Law are decreed in the place of the Ph.D. in right. LL.D. can also be decreed as a honorary Diplôme with personalities having contributed much for the company.

With the the United States, LL.D. is almost always a honorary Diplôme. The diploma of Doctor off Juridical Science ( J.S.D. gold S.J.D. gold D.J.S. ) is decreed for a research task and the drafting of a Thèse. This title is regarded as equivalent with a Ph.D. in Droit.
