Doctor Watson
The Doctor John H. Watson is a fictitious character created by the writer Arthur Conan Doyle. Watson is the friend of the detective Sherlock Holmes, the narrator of almost all the stories and the " to make-valoir" of this one.
One can observe on this point an evolution of the character. Born about 1852, Watson is doctor of medicine (" MD"). He started in 1878 a career of army medical officer but, wounded within the framework of the countryside of Afghanistan in 1880, he is put at the retirement and profits consequently from a pension. About 1887, it Marie ( the Sign of the four ) and takes customers (prone to many abandonments when Watson follows Holmes in one of his adventures). During the absence of Holmes, between 1891 and 1894, it becomes widowed (without one knowing exactly what it is occurred of his wife Mary Morstan). With the return of Holmes, it again ceases its activity of doctor until about 1903, where it takes again customers before remarier.
In the adventures of Holmes, Watson plays the part of the “naive” companion by the eyes of which the reader discovers the business under his most mysterious aspect, then of a blow discovers the truth via the explanations of Holmes.
If its contribution to the adventures is rather anecdotic (it fills certain tasks subordinates, puts its medical knowledge and competences at the service of the detective and brings its support in the event of hard blows), Watson is nevertheless the heart of the saga holmésienne, his humanity being used as counterweight with the apparent dryness of the character of Holmes.
Holmes once describes it like a driver of light rather than like its source, which means that the perplexity of Watson and its interrogations on a business can put his/her friend on the track of the truth
