Doctor Octopus

The Doctor Octopus is a character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, to face Spider-Man. It appeared for the first time in the 3rd number of Amazing Spider-Man , published in 1963.

History

The brilliance nuclear physicist Otto Octavius had imagined a thoracic harness at which 4 metal tentacles were fixed enabling him to handle dangerous remote radioactive substances. During an accident of laboratory, it occurred an explosion of radioactive liquids and the scientist was irradiated. The harness was welded then with its skin and was connected to its nervous system. Octavius become the " Doctor Octopus" noted that it could operate its artificial arms mentally. With the passing of years, it acquired an increasingly large control on them: it is now able to direct them even if they are separated from the harness. It is an enemy coriace; Spider-Man faced it on several occasions, with more or less success… Octopus has even a time inhabited at the aunt May, the aunt of Spider-Man. In a more general way, even, on several Octopus occasions crossed May Reilly Parker, kidnapped it even; it each time acted like a true society man, gallant and pleasant, so that May likes it.

He died assassinated by Kaine, whereas he had just saved the life of the Spider. He was ressucity by the Hand thanks to the sacrifice of Stunner.

Appearances

  • Alfred Molina played Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 of Sam Raimi in 2004. In this film, in fact the tentacles are endowed with intelligence, which pushes Otto Octavius with becoming Doctor Octopus.
