Docklands

Docklands or London Docklands is the name of a district of the east of London, with the the United Kingdom, including/understanding the districts of Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Greenwich. The Dock S of the same name formed in the past part of the Port of London, one of largest of the world in its time. This district was rehabilitated today for a regular commercial and residential practice. The name London Docklands for the first time was used in 1971 in a report/ratio of the government on the plans of redéveloppement and almost became an official designation, largely included/understood today by everyone.

Zones of Docklands

The Docklands of London include/understand an old complex of shipyards (of west in is):
  • St Katharine Docks (Wapping)

  • London Docks (Wapping)
  • Regent' S Channel Dock (today Limehouse Basin, Limehouse)
  • Commercial Surrey Docks (today Surrey Quays, Rotherhithe)
  • West India Docks and Millwall Dock (Isle off Dogs)
  • East India Docks (Canning Town)
  • Royal Docks (Royal Victoria Dock, Royal Albert Dock and King George V Dock)

Another shipyard exists a little downstream, with Tilbury, but is generally not regarded as belonging to the Docklands .

The zone indicated by the name of Docklands , located mainly on the northern bank of the the Thames, is consisted of the old grounds belonging to the wearing of London but does not include/understand the whole of the harbor installations located at the edge of the river. Other quays and Appontement S are located along the Thames but only some, mainly located at Greenwich, are still in service and of which mainly part of the Docklands .
