Dobro is a name of mark property of Gibson Guitar Corporation used for a certain design of Guitare to resonator.
The name itself is closely related to the history of the instruments to resonator: at the origin created by the brothers Dopyera (contraction of Dopyera brothers who results in good into Slovaque) when they formed their company of guitars, it became a time in the language running a term which indicated (in an erroneous way) all the guitars with resonator, or more precisely those which used a certain system of resonator. The Dobro mark also appeared in all legality on other instruments, such as electric guitars.
When Gibson became owner of the name in 1993, the company announced that it would take advantage of its rights to the exclusive use of the name.
The Company National takes importance but following a conflict between Dopera and their associates, the five brother leave the company and found Dobro Company. The Dobro guitar that they sell in 1929 is a new instrument provided with a new system of resonator. Thereafter Dobro repurchased National. The manufacture of Dobro and National stopped during the war because of the restrictions on metal and it is in 1960/61 that ED Will dope decides refabriquer Dobro guitars in all points similar to those of 1929. Of this fact he baptize them " Original".
