Djurdjura

The Djurdjura , also called Adrar N Jerjer in Kabyle, is a Massif mountainous north of the Algérie, on the edge the Mediterranean, constituting the longest mountainous chain of the Kabylie. The natural limits of Djurdjura go from the surroundings of Draâ El Mizan until Tazmalt, being thus spread out over a length of almost 70 km. It belongs to the chain of the Atlas.

Etymology and various names

The word Djurdjura comes from the Berbère Jjerjer meaning “great cold”, “height”, of old made up word Jer N Jer naɣ Ger N Ger , “the mountain of the mountains”.

The Romans called as much it “the iron mountain” ( Montus Ferratus ) for the nature of its ground that for the character of the inhabitants of the time considered savage resistant to any invader. Djurdjura is the name applied to all the villages perched around him. To indicate these hills (ex- Michelet, villages related to the sub-prefectures of Ouacifs and Ouadhia which are: Agouni Fourou, Has Arguenne, Has Bouadou, Timeghras, Has Boumehdi, Has Aggad, Tizi Mellal…). Mmis Djerdjer meaning “wire of Djurdjura” extended thereafter to appoint a mountain dweller. A group of singers kabyles took the name DjurDjura in référenc eà the assembly line.

Geography

Its culminating point is Azeru amr' ur or Tamgut N Yemma Xliğa (Lalla-Khadîdja) (2  308 meters).

The hydrologists qualify Djurdjura of “ tower water perforated ”: Kabylie being sparse sources of mineral drinking water and thermo mineral.

Anou Ifflis by its depth of 1  159 meters is in fact the deepest pit of Africa and among the first in the world. This pit also named “the pit of the leopard” is far from known speleologists. They are free-Algerian forwardings, then Spanish and Belgians who allowed to explore it at the beginning of the Années 1980.

The cave of the stiff presents an undeniable tourist attraction. Very difficult access close to Michelet to Azeru N tiger , one finds the site of a momifié corpse there.

National park

The National park of Djurdjura (surface: : 18500 ha) were creates in 1983 to protect the solid mass which, of tops covered with snow in thick forests, throats of small valleys, the lake to the high plateaus, shelters a beautiful quantity of animal species of which the monkey nest egg, the eagle boot, the wild boar, the hyena striped, the falcon or the ashed héron and the sittèle kabyle: species single and recently discovered.

The park was the theater of several fires, in particular criminal, which devastated the forest of unquestionable cedars being thousand-year-old.

  • Lalla-Khadîdja (2  308 meters) in the east of the solid mass, the true kabyle name being Azeru amghur or Tamgut

  • Close-cropped Timedouine (2  305 meters) in the center
  • Djebel Heidzer (2  164 meters) with the top of Bouira
  • the collar of Tirourda (1  750 meters)
  • Akouber station of mountain of Tikjda (1  475 meters)
  • Kweryet (1  500 meters) in the North of the solid mass; it is also the name of an old commune (Daïra of Kweryet: commune gathering certain villages of Ouacifs and Ouadhias).
