Djezzar Pasha

Djezzar Pasha , pasha of Saint-Jean-in Acre, born towards 1720 in Bosnia, died in 1804.

Sold like slave in Egypt, it rose successively row of simple Mamelouk with the dignity of governor of the Cairo, then of Beirut, 1773. Appointed then pasha of Saint-Jean-of Acre, 1775, it was made there independent during forwarding of the French in Egypt, 1799. Locked up at the time of the seat of Saint-Jean-in Acre, it supported against the French a memorable seat, where the fortune of Napoleon Bonaparte tested its first failure. Its cruelty had been worth the nickname of Djezzar to him (to stop).
