Division of census

A division of census is a territorial division created by Statistique Canada to mitigate the great disparity of regional administration Canada. In the provinces having supramunicipaux governments, the division of census correpond to the county, regional Municipality of county, regional District or another kind of area dividing this province. Since these regional governments are non-existent in 4 Province S (the Alberta, the Saskatchewan, the Manitoba and Ground-New-and-Labrador) and of the Territoire S, Statistique Canada got along with those to divide them into several statistical areas. With the Quebec, being given high number of the regional municipalities of county and equivalent territories (103 in all), Statistique Canada got along with the province to reduce this one to 98 divisions of census. There is in all 288 division of census in Canada in 2001.
