Division Statistics and Protection of the personnel of the Foreign legion

Creation on June 25th 1925 of the " Intelligence services of the Foreign legion " who is attached to the 2 {{E}} Bureau of the general Staff which becomes " Office of the Statistics of Foreign legion (BSLE) " February 17th 1937, to take the recent name of DSPLE on January 1st 1996. It is a station related to the DPSD for technical reasons, which deals with security issues specific to the Foreign legion.

Subordination and competence

The DSPLE raises:

with the technical plan of the Directing general of the DPSD
in the plan of the employment of the general COM.LE

It is subjected to no territorial subordination PSD (within the C.M.D. exist four stations: Ground/Marseilles, Navy/Toulon, Air/Aix-the-Miles and DSPLE/Aubagne).

Its competence extends to all the personnel concerned with the COM.LE under the decree 82-138 of February 8th, 1982: i.e. all personnel being used for the Legion including the officers being used for foreign title except for the officers of the general scheme and the " frameworks blancs".

The chief of the DSPLE is generally a Senior officer having been used a certain number of years for the Legion which has a good knowledge of the legionary and institution, like DPSD, thanks to the training courses and conferences organized by this organization.

Mission

To inform:

the COM.LE, auprès whose the chief of the DSPLE has to play the part to advise as regards safety concerning the protection of the personnel.
the DPSD, of done everything safety interesting the personnel being used for the Legion, in the aim of protection defense, the Foreign legion and the legionary against any external threat or intern.

General organization

Division is organized around five cells gathering with theoretical manpower meadows of twenty-seven personnel, including 2 officers and 16 warrant officers:

Cell data-processing command/secretariat/
Cell of situation/information
Cellule controls personal
Cellule filtering (specific to the Legion)
Cellule documentation (specific to the Legion)

Each cell has a quite specific mission, which can employ only trained personnel, seldom interchangeable, requiring for some an enabling with the secrecy defense, for others of the recognized linguistic abilities.

Originality of the system Legion

The specificity of the system Legion as regards safety, consists in prolonging the action of the " chain sécurité" until in the regiments by the combined action of its main actors:

/the Officer second in command of safety in title of the regiment
the OPSR (Officer prevention and regimental safety)
the warrant officer secretary of the OPSR and his office, who has at his disposal the Military Police.

All this personnel is the " correspondents locaux" DSPLE; they ensure on the one hand the research of the information of safety within the units and on the other hand maintain the useful contacts with the local services the National police force and the Gendarmerie.
