Divine warriors of Odin (Holy Seiya)

The divine warlike are a group of characters of animated Saint Seiya , in France the Knights of the Zodiac .

These characters were created exclusively for the adaptation animated of the Manga in order to allow this one to take a little in advance. Saint Seiya in animated version to this end includes/understands many characters added to the original history but the divine warriors are the only ones to form a coherent history.

There exist however kinds of “drafts” of the divine warriors: a chapter at the end of volume 13 of the manga (a history devoted to Hyôga) and second film of Saint Seiya (the war of the gods)

Summary of the history

After the battle of the Sanctuary, the bronze knights go back their wounds. In the kingdom of Asgard, in the north of the Europe, an ungrateful region with the polar climate, the sovereign one, the princess Hilda de Polaris, sees itself proposing by a voice left the sea to enter in war against the Sanctuary weakened by the fratricidal wars and to offer to its people a better life. In front of the refusal of Hilda, the mysterious unknown passes to him to the finger a ring malefic, the ring of Niebelungen. This ring has a great capacity in addition to that to control the spirit of its carrier (a little like the single Anneau the Seigneur the Rings ).

Had, Hilda awakes the spirits of the seven divine warriors of the kingdom of Asgard, from which the role is to protect it. It sends one of them, Syd de Mizar, to attack Saori Kido in Japan, but this one is pushed back by Seiya and its companions, carrying armours coldly repaired (it is as from this moment that the armours will have the same aspect in the manga and the animated adaptation).

Hyôga is sent as spy to Asgard and succeeds in escaping from it with the assistance from the young sister from Hilda, Freyja, which noticed the change undergone by his/her sister. Freyja begs Saori Kido to reason Hilda, because the role of the latter is capital: these are the prayers which maintain the two poles cold and thus prevent a general tidal wave. Saori agrees but does not succeed in making hear reason with Hilda; it thus decides to request itself while its knights will destroy the ring of Niebelungen. Thanks to the old Master of the Five Peaks, the knights learn that it will be necessary for them for that to join together sapphires of Odin which each divine warrior relates to his armor in order to seize the sword of Odin.

Whereas Seiya will seize the last sapphire of Odin, a new character makes his appearance: Sorrento of the Siren, one of the seven generals of Poséidon (what allows animated to hang up again itself with the manga). It is learned that it is Poséidon which controlled Hilda by the ring of Niebelungen in order to weaken Athéna. Insane of anger, the last divine warrior, Siegfried, try to involve Sorrento with him in death, while Seiya faces Hilda. It succeeds in breaking the ring, but when the bronze knights will seek Saori exhausted, this one is removed by a giant wave caused by Poséidon.

Characters

They refer almost all to the Scandinavian mythology. To note that the divine warriors are not protected by a constellation like the knights, but by one of principal stars of Large Ourse.

; Hilda de Polaris

It is the sovereign one of Asgard. Its role is to request the Odin god so that the poles remain cold. It is of a soft and peaceful nature. Its possession by the ring of Niebelungen changes it radically but none of its warriors raises really questions. Its name refers to the Brunehilde Valkyrie. She carries an armor which vaguely evokes one of the corbels advisers of Odin.

; Freyja de Polaris

(to pronounce “Freya”, with allemande; renamed Flamme in VF)
It is the young sister of Hilda. She is the only one to really wonder about the change of personality of her elder. She flees of Asgard to ask for the assistance of Athéna. She bears the name of the Scandinavian goddess of the love and the fertility. She will help Hyoga to escape from her prison of Asgard.

; Siegfried de Dubhê (star alpha)

It is most powerful of the divine warriors. It is fanatically devoted (or in love?) of Hilda and never wonders about the orders that it gives him. It is considered invulnerable, like its ancestor, hero Siegfried, which had bathed in the blood of the dragon which it had killed, but has like him a weak point, the heart (only place where blood had not touched its skin because of a sheet which had been stuck there). When he learns that it is Poséidon which envoûté Hilda, he tries to kill Sorrento of the Siren but fails in front of the illusions and the malefic flute of the latter. Its armor with the shape of the dragon Fafnir, the dragon with two heads which the Siegfried hero killed.

; Hagen de Meyrak (star beta)

It is the warrior nearest to Freyja de Polaris. It is in love insane. It burns jealousy with regard to Hyôga which, according to him, corrupted the spirit of Freyja to convince it to draw up itself against his/her sister. In spite of its feelings, there remains devoted in Hilda at the point to oblige itself to attack Freyja while she protects Hyôga. Hagen controls at the same time the Glace and the Lave thanks to a severe drive that it was necessary since very small. Its armor is in form of Cheval to eight legs, which was the mounting of Odin.

; Thor de Phecda (star gamma)

It is the giant of the group. It has a good and generous character and a small side " Robin of Wood " , since in the beginning it was a poacher which took game on the princely grounds to give it to the inhabitants villages. He noticed the change of personality of Hilda but without questioning themselves front. He carries two Hache S, as the god of which he bears the name carried a hammer. Its armor is in the shape of snake.

; Albérich de Mégrez (star delta)

Famous most intelligent of the divine warriors, they is also most ambitious of all. It is the only one to know the possession of Hilda by the ring, having attended the scene by chance. It intends to benefit from this war to recover seven sapphires of Odin and to kill Hilda to become the Master of the world. It uses all the means to fight, including the unfair tricks and the Chantage. It controls the forces of the forest and has an ignited sword. Siegfried is wary of him. Albérich, by its techniques and its direction of the strategy, which is that represents the most dangerous adversary, having overcome several knights. Its armor does not have a particular form. In Scandinavian mythology, Albérich was the dwarf guard of the treasure of Niebelungen.

; Fenrir d' Alioth (star epsilon)

Fenrir is of origin aristocratic. But during its childhood, his/her parents were killed at the time of a hunting for the Ours. Fenrir was saved by Loup S whereas his/her companions had given up it. Since, Fenrir does not make any more confidence that with the wolves and hates humanity. He lives with a pack of which he is the chief; the wolves obey to him. He obeys Hilda above all by hatred of the men and coldly considers the destruction of planet by the cast iron of the ices. Its armor is in the shape of wolf. Fenrir carries itself the name of the giant wolf of the Scandinavia mythology which, according to the legend, will devour the world at the end of times.

; Syd de Mizar (star dzêta)

Syd is a close relation of Siegfried and famous the second in power. It is him whom Hilda sends to take the head of Athéna to the Japan. In the passing, it attacks the Aldébaran knight of the Bull to have an idea of the power of the gold knights, idea which will not be very glorious for the latter. It controls the Givre, the blizzard and the Froid. Its armor is in form of Tigre to teeth of saber. Its name does not have particular significance in Scandinavian mythology.

; Bud d' Alcor (star dzêta of the shade)

Bud is the hidden twin brother of Syd. With their birth, the laws of the aristocracy imposing only one heir, Bud was given up by its family and was collected by a farmer. Larger, Bud meets his/her brother and discovers his past. Its rancour increases when Syd becomes warlike divine and that itself is only the faithful shade. It counts on the death of Syd to become the true divine warrior of Mizar. Bud professes a strong hatred with respect to its twin, but the events show him that it is mistaken itself: in fact, Bud wants to really protect his/her brother, whereas Syd itself is ready to die to make a future better to its twin. Its armor with the same form that of Syd, but it is of white color. Its name does not have particular significance in Scandinavian mythology.

; MIME of Benetnasch (star eta)

MIME is seemingly inoffensive, so much so that the chain of Andromède cannot attack it. It uses the music of its Lyre to fight: this one weakens that which listens to it. But MIME hides in fact a proper hatred against itself: he assassinated Volker, his adoptive father on a blow of rage, after having discovered that this last responsible for had died for his/her biological parents. Since, MIME uses the music to be dissimulated its own feelings, the love which it carried to his adoptive father and hatred that it dedicates for his gesture. Its armor is in form of Harpe. The name of MIME is that of the dwarf who educated Siegfried in Scandinavian mythology.
