Diverticulum of Zenker

In Anatomy, a diverticulum of Zenker is a Diverticule (a pocket) which is formed above the higher Sphincter œsophagien between the lower muscle constrictor and the muscle cricopharyngien. Its presence perhaps due to a weakness of the muscular wall what makes it possible the mucous membrane to make covered and to form this kind of pocket. The diagnostic one is radiological or endoscopic. The treatment consists of surgery in the symptomatic cases.

It owes its name with Friedrich Albert von Zenker.
