Dithmarschen

Dithmarschen is an area of the the Schleswig-Holstein between the the North Sea, the Eider, the Elba and the channel " North-Ostsee-Kanal " whose borders exist since the Moyen-âge. Dithmarschen was until in 1559 a free republic of farmers.

At the coast of the North Sea, Dithmarschen consists of Marsch in (French: Marsh), while at the interior of the country one finds the Geest. The most important cities are Heide (Holstein), Meldorf with its dome called Pfarrkirche, Brunsbüttel, Burg, Marne, Wesselburen and Büsum, a known holiday place. The border of the Middle Ages of the republic of farmers remains valid, it curves a few hundred meters on the left and on the right of the North-Ostsee-Kanal.
