History

• 1790 : creation of the department with 6 districts: Aix, Apt, Arles, Marseilles, Living room, Tarascon

• 1800: creation of the districts: Aix, Marseilles, Tarascon
• 1817: the sub-prefecture of Tarascon is moved in Arles
• 1981: creation of the district of Istres
