- 1790 : creation of the department of the Gironde with 7 districts: Bazas, Blaye, Bordeaux, Cadillac, Lesparre, Libourne, Réole
- 1800: creation of the districts: Bordeaux, Bazas, Blaye, Lesparre, Libourne, Réole
- 1926: suppression of the districts of Lesparre and Réole
- 1926: the sub-prefecture of Bazas is moved in Langon
- 1942: restoration of the district of Lesparre
- 2007: creation of the district of Arcachon
