History

• 1790 : creation of the department of Vienna with 6 districts: Châtellerault, Civray, Loudun, Lusignan, Montmorillon, Poitiers
• 1800: creation of the districts: Châtellerault, Civray, Loudun, Montmorillon, Poitiers
• 1926: removal of the districts of Civray and Loudun
