History
- 1790 : creation of the department of Two-Sevres with 6 districts: Châtillon, Miss, Niort, Parthenay, Saint-Maixent, Thouars
- 1800: creation of the districts: Miss, Niort, Parthenay, Thouars
- 1804: the sub-prefecture of Thouars is moved in Bressuire
- 1926: removal of the districts of Bressuire and Miss
- 1942: restoration of the district of Bressuire
