• 1790 : creation of the department of Mayenne with 7 districts: Castle-Gontier, Craon, Ernée, Lassay, Laval, Mayenne, Holy-Suzanne
• 1800: creation of the districts: Castle-Gontier, Laval, Mayenne
• 1926: removal of the district of Castle-Gontier
• 1942: restoration of the district of Castle-Gontier
