History

1790 : creation of the department of Haute-Marne with 6 districts: Bourbonne, Bourmont, Chaumont, Joinville, Langres, Saint-Dizier
1800: creation of the districts: Chaumont, Langres, Wassy
1926: removal of the district of Wassy
1940: restoration of the district of Wassy
1940: the sub-prefecture is moved of Wassy with Saint-Dizier
