History
- 1790 : creation of the department of Haut-Rhin with 3 districts: Altkirch, Belfort, Colmar
- 1800: creation of the districts: Altkirch, Belfort, Colmar, Delémont, Porrentruy (both correspondent at the department of the Mount-Terrible removed and attached to Haut-Rhin)
- 1814: removal of the districts of Delémont and Porrentruy (returned to Switzerland)
- 1857: the sub-prefecture of Altkirch is moved in Mulhouse
- 1871: removal of the department, almost entirely annexed by Germany (except Belfort)
- 1919: return to France and restoration of the department: Altkirch, Colmar, Guebwiller, Mulhouse, Ribeauvillé, Thann
