Districts of Ghana

The districts of Ghana are, in 2006, 138.

The territorial distribution of Ghana by districts was entirely reorganized in 1988-1989 with the objective to decentralize the government and to fight against the corruption of the civils servant and other official. The reform subdivided the Régions of Ghana in 110 districts; in each one of them, an assembly of district was to manage the local government. With the passing of years, 28 additional districts were created by dividing some of the 110 original districts.
