History

• 1790 : creation of the department with 7 districts: Arnay-the-Duke, Beaune, the Châtillon-on-Seine, Dijon, Is-sur-Tille, Saint-Jean-with-Losne, Semur-in-Auxois
• 1800: creation of the districts: Beaune, Dijon, the Châtillon-on-Seine, Semur-in-Auxois
• 1926: removal of the district of the Châtillon-on-Seine, the sub-prefecture of Semur-in-Auxois is moved with Montbard
