History

• 1790 : creation of the department with 9 districts: Aubin, Millau, Wall-of-Bar, Rodez, Saint-Affrique, Saint-Obstruct-with Olt, Sauveterre, Sévérac-the-Castle, Villefranche

• 1800: creation of the districts: Espalion, Millau, Rodez, Saint-Affrique, Villefranche-with-Rouergue
• 1926: removal of the districts of Espalion and Saint-Affrique
