History

• 1790 : creation of the department with 3 districts: Mirepoix, Saint-Bosoms, Tarascon

• 1800: creation of the districts: Foix, Pamiers, Saint-Bosoms
• 1926: removal of the district of Pamiers
• 1942: restoration of the district of Pamiers
