It is the February 17th 1800 which Bonaparte creates the districts: the Arrondissement of Strasbourg reiterates the essence of the old district.

In 1871 the district is attached, like all the Alsace, with the German empire by the Traité of Frankfurt. It is divided into two Kreis : Straßburg (Land) and Straßburg (Stadt) . This last then represents 78 km ² and 111.987 inhabitants in 1885.

After the restitution in France in 1919 by the Treated of Versailles, the Kreis Straßburg (Stadt) becomes the district of Strasbourg-City.
