District of Sarine

The district of Sarine (all. Saanebezirk) is one of the seven districts of the canton of Freiburg in Suisse. The chief town is Freiburg.

The district has a surface of 217,60 km ² and counts 92  369 inhabitants (2006).

The district is located at the center of the canton and the most is populated. It counts two electoral districts for the Great Council: the town of Freiburg and Sarine-Countryside.

The Council of State is represented by the prefect who is elected by the people since 1976.
