The reform of 1926
During the general recutting of the districts in 1926, the District of Gien and the Arrondissement of Pithiviers were removed.
A new recutting, in 1942, restored the district of Pithiviers in its original state, while the suppression of that of Gien became final.
The district of Orleans was thus seen associating, in 1926:
- in a final way: the Canton of the Ouzouer-on-Loire and the Canton of the Sully-on-Loire (detached from the district of Gien, tandisque the 3 other cantons were attached to the Arrondissement of Montargis);
- in a temporary way (1926-1942): the Canton of Malesherbes, the Canton of Outarville and the Canton of Pithiviers (detached from the district of Pithiviers, tandisque the 2 other cantons were attached, them also temporarily, with the district of Montargis).
