District of Chemnitz

The district of Chemnitz (in German Regierungsbezirk Chemnitz ) is one of the three German districts ( Regierungsbezirke ) of the Land of Saxony. Its chief town is Chemnitz.

Geographical location

The district is bordering on Thuringe (in the west), on the district of Leipzig (in north) and of Dresden (in the east), and, in the south, on the Czech Republic (Karlovarský kraj).

The district is located at the south-west of Saxony.

History

The district was created on January 1st, 1991 by decision of the Saxon government of November 27th, 1990.

  8. Vogtland (chief town Plauen) ¹: 46 communes
  9. Zwickau-Countryside (chief town Werdau): 17
