District of Castelo Branco

The district of Castelo Branco is a District of Portugal. Its surface is of 6.675 km ², which makes of them 4th country in terms of surface. Its population is of 208  069 inhabitants (2001). Its capital is the éponyme city of Castelo Branco.

The district of Castelo Branco includes/understands 11 municipalities:

Historically the District corresponds roughly to the old province Beira Baixa.

The area is under a quasi Mediterranean climate, it made very hot there in summer.

Geographically the district extends from the southern buttresses of Serra da Estrela, of the Greenhouse da Malcata, prolonged as a whole on the beautiful solid mass of Tightened da Gardunha, more to the east beyond Rio Ponsul extends the planicie from Idanha has Nova, cultivated plain, and sometimes carrying thickets of eucalyptus which slices the horizon which extends as far as very close Spain, more in the west, beyond the Town of Castelo Branco the landscape each, and the holm oaks, olive-tree, and eucalyptus leaves room to the pine forest, of which most beautiful are of Oleiro and Villa of Rei, in the mountainous solid masses of Muradal, Alvélos, of Lousã, creating with Tightened of Gardunha and Estrela the landscape in backdrop of the townsmen of Castelo Branco, beyond the cultivated grounds.
