The district of Saint-Roch is one of the oldest suburbs of Quebec. The expansion of the city towards these grounds starts as of the end of the XVIIe century. The district however takes its true rise in the middle of the XVIIIe century following with the advent of the shipyards along the Rivière Saint-Charles. Towards the end of the next century, the economy of Saint-Roch, mainly centered on the construction of ships, knows a stagnation. One attends then with a reorientation of the activities towards other types of industries and the development of the commercial sector.

At the end of the XIXe century, Saint-Roch becomes the populeux district and most prosperous of Quebec. Unfortunately, years 1960 know a fall of the activities to the profit of the suburbs. This deceleration will be maintained until the years 1990.
