Puerto Rico is a Board game created by Andreas Seyfarth, illustrated by Franz Vohwinkel and published initially by Alea in German then by Tilsit in French version.
For 2 to 5 players, as from 12 years for parts being able to vary from 90 to 150 minutes.
General principle
Each player controls a colony, represented by his mini-plate of personal play.A turn of play is held like that:
- a player is indicated Gouverneur and begins the turn. The Governor is “revolving”, i.e shifts of a player to each new turn begun
- the Governor chooses a role among the 7 different ones proposed, which makes it possible to make a specific action (for example the Builder allows to build a building) and gives a privilege to the player who plays it (the reduced Builder of a doubled bloom the cost of the buildings)
- Each other player carries out the action of the role chosen by the Governor but obviously without profiting from the privilege
- These two last stages are reproduced for each player in their turn, knowing that the played role is withdrawn from the pile: the following players thus have less choice…
- When the last player made his last action, one places a doubled bloom on each role not used, one gives concerned the roles used, the Governor is given to the following player and it set out again for a turn!
Rules of the game
Goal of the play
The goal of the play is to have the most points of victory at the end of the part. There are three way of having points of victory:
- by exporting its barrels of goods during the part
- by building buildings, which have each one a value in statement and are entered at the end of part
- while building and activator the large mauve buildings, which bring back in this case of the no-claims bonus of statement (for example, according to the number of built plantations)
Unfolding
During the part, each player will be able, to build buildings to improve his colony, to install plantations to make it more productive, to manage his colonists to make function the plantations and the buildings which it decides, to sell its productions or to export them. With this intention, to each turn, each player will choose a role which he will incarnate for this turn only. The roles available are the following:
- the Mayor , which makes it possible to import new colonists to increase the population of the colonies.
- the Builder , which makes it possible to the players to build new buildings on its colony.
- the Intendant , which makes it possible to the players to install new plantations.
- the Foreman , which makes it possible to the players to manufacture their production and to make it exportable.
- the Ship-owner , which makes it possible to the players to export their goods, which brings back points of victory.
- the Commercial , which makes it possible to the players to sell their goods at the market against doubled blooms (local currency).
- the Gold digger , which simply makes it possible to gain a doubled bloom.
End of part and winner
The part stops when there are no more diponibles colonists, or more points of victory available, or when one of the players builds the possible maximum of buildings in its colony.Gaining is that which cumulated the most points of victory.
