Music
The album starts with Strange Brew . Clapton ensures the song on this adapted version of Lawdy Mama by their producer Felix Pappalardi. It is the perfect example of what was a good part of the rock'n'roll of the Sixties: a base blues, on which one embroiders topics psychedelic with a rhythmic base plus rock'n'roll.
Sunshine Of Your Love is the most famous title of Cream. Its front, based on the unison with the parts of Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, should not make forget part of particularly original battery of Ginger Baker. Bruce and Clapton share the song: this last answering the other, put aside the parts where their voices mix. Jimi Hendrix took again this traditional of Cream to many resumptions in concert.
World Off Bread mark beginnings of Eric Clapton with the Wah-wah. Clapton and Bruce share the song: part in Falsetto for Bruce and in harmony on the refrains. Another innovation: the doubles soli recorded in overdubs by Clapton (without harmony).
Dance The Night Away is one of more great successes of Cream. Clapton plays the front which is used as reason between the verses on an electric guitar 12-cords. The vocal parts (Clapton/Bruce harmony) are subtle, and the rhythm section is remarkable of creativity.
The composition of Ginger Baker, sung by him, which finishes the face, Blue Condition , is the weakest title by far.
Tales off Faces Ulysses is a proto- White Room . It is however a Co-signed composition Eric Clapton, of which the parts of Wha-wha are remarkable from beginning to end. The song of Bruce Jack alternates calm passages, in the low registers, with truly inhabited flights.
SWLABR (makes She Was Like of it has Bearded Rainbow ) is an energetic rock'n'roll written by the tandem Jack Bruce/Pete Brown. It is the typical example of the effective compositions of Cream in studio, magnifiées by the guitar blues of Eric Clapton.
The following composition, signed Bruce Jack, one of is made a success of of its career. It has it will take again all along its career solo. We' Re Going Wrong is a title of modal inspiration, rate/rhythm by fantastic the drumming of Ginger Baker (play on its only toms). The falsetto of Bruce Jack, all in selected, is superb (on versions of work, it had tried a song more torn off).
It is Eric Clapton who sings the resumption of the blues Outside Woman Blues (often quoted by Jimi Hendrix in concert). The treatment is extremely different from the approach of the time John Mayall, with the image of the first beach of the album.
Take It Back is more in the spirit of Fresh Cream : it is a blues light and hopping of Bruce Jack. To the song and the harmonica, this last carries the title by its enthusiasm. The topic is less light than the music could let it think: according to Dave Thompson, the words would evoke the withdrawal of the American troops of Vietnam.
The album closes with Mother' S Lament , traditional operetta Cockney. Although being able to appear incongruous, the result is cordial.
